Aurora Real Estate Information

Aurora, home to over 270,000 residents, is a part of the greater Denver-Aurora metropolitan area. Founded in the 1880s, Aurora was originally considered a large suburb of Denver due to its close proximity to the larger city. Historically, the city may have started out as a suburb but recently has been operating quite distinctly, with its own government, school system, and city services. Sandwiched in between the I-225 and I-70, the city is easily connected to downtown Denver and the surrounding region.
In fact, although a number of commercial interests are concentrated in Aurora?s central district, a large portion of Aurora?s residents commute into Denver during the week for work.

Buckley Air National Guard base, located on the city?s eastern flank, is a major part of the community. A number of civilian government workers have jobs at the base, making the Air Force one of the largest employers in the area. The Aurora Mall and the Plaza at Aurora Mall are two highlights of the city?s central shopping area. A number of national brand retailers and big box stores are also located nearby making shopping easy and convenient for local residents. Despite the growing urban nature of Aurora, the city is quite green and is sprinkled with parks and recreational areas. Expo Park, Delaney Farm Park, Del Mar Park, and Reeves Park are among the larger parks with large grassy fields for sports like soccer and football and playgrounds for the younger children. Aurora Hills Golf Course, Mira Vista Golf Course, and Heather Ridge Country Club are also situated in the heart of the city. In the southeastern portion of Aurora is the Cherry Creek State Park that surrounds Cherry Creek Reservoir. A number of walking and biking trails weave their way through the park and are often quite busy during the weekends.

The Adams-Arapahoe 28J School District, more commonly known as the Aurora Public School System, operates over thirty elementary schools, seven middle schools, and four high schools. Each campus is centrally located to be convenient for the majority of residents in the area. The school district also allows for geographic exceptions for students looking to pursue special interests like exotic languages or different musical ensembles. Besides the public education offered to students in grades K-12, Aurora also has a few institutions of higher learning nearby. The Community College of Aurora and University of Colorado Denver?s Anschutz Medical Campus are both based in Aurora and not only attract local residents from the city and Colorado but also bring in a large number of students from around the United States and the world.
