Highlands Ranch Real Estate Information

The suburban community of Highlands Ranch is located on the outskirts of the Denver metropolitan area just south of Englewood and Centennial. With a growing population of over 70,000 Coloradoans, Highlands Ranch is actually one of the largest unincorporated communities in the United States. Originally settled by the Ute, Cheyenne, and Arapaho Native American tribes, Highlands Ranch became part of the United States in 1803 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. It wasn?t until an influx of miners came during the Colorado Gold Rush that settlers actually began building a community.

However, the suburban nature of Highlands Ranch is relatively new and it wasn?t until the 1980s that schools were built in town. Today, over a dozen elementary schools, five middles school, and five high schools are all dedicated to the youth of Highlands Ranch.
Additionally, an extensive project was just started to improve the public library system in Highlands Ranch.

Highway 470 links Highlands Ranch to the I-25 that connects to the rest of the greater Denver area. While Highlands Ranch is primarily a residential community, Lucent Technologies recently established its headquarters in town and is one of the area?s largest employers. However, despite recent commercial establishment in the area, the majority of residents still commute to downtown Denver of the Denver Technological Center during the week.

The Park Meadows Mall in neighboring Lone Tree hosts dozens of vendors. Besides a well-appointed food court and promenade of restaurants, the mall also features large department stores like Nordstrom and Macy?s as well as some local specialty boutiques.
Nonetheless, Highlands Ranch has a number of grocery stores and other retailers in the immediate area. As a relatively green community, Highlands Ranch is lucky to have tree-lined neighborhood streets and a large number of community recreational facilities.
Sand Creek Park, James G. Toepfer Park, Northridge Park, Diamond Park, Kistler Park, Springer Park, Falcon Park, Highland Heritage Park, and Historic Cheese Ranch Park are among the favorite community gathering spots and exercise locations. The South Suburban Golf Course and Highlands Ranch Golf Club are two of the closest golf courses in the area and offer exceptional values.
